My original goal was to start in Barcelona and then make my way through the Pyrenees then across to Italy, however I found logistically that was almost impossible to do while also visiting the sites at the tail end of the trip. I've shelved that idea for another time when I can focus just on Spain.
The plan for this 2016 trip came about with wanting to get a group of friends back together and meetup in Munich at Oktoberfest at the tail end of the festival. While there in 2011 I was told by locals to go at the end when it's less crowded and you can actually get into tents easier. With that being the end goal, I found a way to fill the rest of the trip with a place I've yet to visit, Italy.
I found out about this small strip of coastal towns back in the 90s on PBS with Ricks TV show. It's always been well out of the way of my previous plans but this year it's my focal point. I'm starting the trip in Paris because I can't get enough of that city. Then taking a RyanAir flight to Pisa, training to Lucca for a few nights then hitting up the Cinque Terre.
